The Facts About Fat
Fat is not the enemy! In fact, it’s actually one of your body’s best friends. Avocados, coconut oil, nuts, and rich oily fish are just a few of the dubbed “superfoods” of the last year. They nourish the body, keep you feeling full (which prevents you from snacking on unhealthy foods), and they release a slow and steady supply of energy – enabling you to keep sharp throughout the day. So why on earth were fats removed from every product on supermarket shelves?
The answer is calories. Less fat in your morning yogurt pot does typically mean less calories. However, there is a catch, as that doesn’t necessarily mean weight loss. In fact, it rarely does. There may be less fat in that food, but there’s almost always more sugar. In order to get the taste as delicious and sweet as it was with the regular fat content, products that are removed of fat are often replaced with added sugars and then they’re labeled as ‘the far healthier option’. Sadly, for many years, we’ve all fallen victim to this way of thinking.
The Sugar Trap
Sugar has been proven time and time again to be one of the main causes of fat gain and serious health conditions including obesity and diabetes, and the fact that it’s in the majority of supermarket items doesn’t help the cause. Products like salad dressings, sauces, smoothies, ‘healthy’ breakfast bars, and yogurts are some of the worst ‘low-fat’ contenders.
The key to healthy weight loss is to embrace nutritious fats and reduce sugar intake, especially if you want anything resembling a healthy, lean, and toned body. Most low-fat products are not the answer as they are filled to the brim with additives and sugars, which certainly do not help with your body goals.

The Good Fats to Eat
Nuts: Almonds, walnut nuts, Brazil nuts, and cashews are all great high-fat snacks that will keep the body fueled and full.
Avocados: And lots of them! Full of healthy fats, they’re also abundant in vitamin K, B vitamins, potassium, and much more. Avocado can be used for just about anything — eat it with your morning eggs or add it to a smoothie for a thick and tasty drink.
Cheese: Although it’s not on the superfood list, a little full-fat cheese won’t do any harm. Besides, who doesn’t love cheese? Just watch your portions.
Eggs: Rich in protein and healthy fats, be sure to always include the yolk as well as the egg whites to get the best of both worlds.
Smoked Fish: As a snack, this works really well. Flake up the fish with some oatcakes or whole-wheat crackers for a filling pick-me-up.
Coconut: A firm Savoir Flair favorite. You may not want to snack on spoons of coconut oil, but fresh coconut is a really refreshing alternative to fruit snacks and its fat content will keep you fuller for longer.
