I am naturally a night owl, so the earliest I’m up would be around 9 or 10 a.m. When I wake up, I don’t leave the bed right away and often spend some time on my phone (a bad habit). I guess I am one of 99.95 percent of people who start their days with social-media browsing, e-mails, and WhatsApp messages before anything else.

I’m also currently obsessed with Blinklist, which is an app that allows you to gather a lot of information in a short amount of time by sharing summaries of books. My favorite topics are nutrition, health, the latest healing techniques, spirituality, and naturopathic medicine.

While I lie in bed, reading or listening to something, I start my morning with the same Ayurvedic ritual of hot water with freshly squeezed lemon juice. Don’t underestimate this simple habit; it’s so powerful. I have been doing it for years, and I swear by it.

Lemon water contains vitamin C that promotes wound healing and is an essential nutrient in the maintenance of healthy bones, connective tissue, and cartilage. It is also an excellent anti-inflammatory. It’s an essential nutrient for good health and recovery from stress and injury.

I believe that drinking lemon water regularly can help to remove overall acidity in the body, including uric acid in the joints, which is one of the primary causes of pain and inflammation. Other benefits of lemon water include, amongst many others, aiding digestion, cleansing your system, boosting your immune system, clearing your skin, and speeding up your metabolism.

I don’t work out in the morning; my favorite time to do that is late in the afternoon. The 5:30 p.m. hot yoga class at Dryp is my religion. Once I’m ready to actually start my day, I take a tablespoon of liquid chlorophyll thirty minutes before my breakfast. I always like to have it right before I shower, so that I’m ready for breakfast after that.

Liquid chlorophyll is my latest obsession – it helps the body detoxify in so many ways. It can help cleanse your blood, cells, and organs from built-up toxins, and it also prevents the build-up of heavy metals by binding to them – and other carcinogens – before your body can absorb them. Studies have shown that one toxin (aflatoxin) found in our bodies was reduced by 95 percent by chlorophyll over a 24-hour period. Adding it to your diet also increases your red blood-cell count, which in turn creates more oxygen to promote healing.

The next step in my routine is anti-cellulite dry brushing. It’s a habit that took me a few years to get used to, but it now comes easily. Ten minutes before I shower, I will dry brush my whole body, starting from my feet and working my way up towards the heart. I try doing this actively so that my legs start to burn and my heart rate goes up. By the time I’m done, I’m finally fully awake. This whole routine is usually performed to drum and bass blasting from my speakers, which I find weirdly energizing and relaxing at the same time.

I use a hair masque every second wash. The best one I have ever tried is still Kiehl’s ‘Olive Fruit Oil Restorative Hair Pak’. Most moisturizing or nourishing hair products will thin your hair, which is not what we women want at all. This is the only product I’ve found that doesn’t do that. It’s really moisturizing, makes your hair shine, and gives it tons of volume at the same time.

On my face, I start by using rose water spray to tighten my pores. Then, I mix natural vitamin E oil with Caudalie’s moisturizing cream and slather that on.

 

After that, it’s breakfast time, which can be a hemp protein shake with lots of frozen berries, Maca powder, and dairy-free milk. My favorite is coconut milk by Italian Bridge Co. I eat a diet that is dairy-, gluten-, and refined sugar-free; it took me eight years to get here. Other breakfast options include buckwheat crackers with avocado and vegan cheese. One of my favorite ones is VioLife, which tastes just like normal cheese. I am still a huge fan of morning porridges too (probably the Russian in me), which I will sweeten with coconut sugar or maple syrup – or nothing at all. When you stop having sugar, everything starts to taste naturally sweet.

Not a single day goes by without my matcha latte. I’m not a coffee drinker, because I’ve always found that it leads to energy crashes. I source my matcha really carefully. It has to have a fresh green color, creamy texture, and no bitterness. I’m talking ceremonial grade and packed with antioxidants. It will hopefully keep me forever young. Given the amount of money I’m spending on it, it better!
