Bodies come in all shapes and sizes, and depending on your body type, you may or may not have experienced thigh chafing. According to dermatologist Dr. Lana Kashlan, “Chafing is caused by chronic rubbing or friction of the skin. This can be the result of the skin rubbing against harsh fabrics or against itself. Sweat also contributes to chafing because salt is left on the skin surface when the sweat evaporates and this can increase the friction.”
Indeed, this totally natural occurrence is unfortunately worsened by heat and humidity. As we head into the harsh Middle Eastern summer, the Goodness team has rounded up some of its favorite products to rescue your #thunderthighs.
Megababe “Thigh Rescue”
Entrepreneur Katie Sturino is behind one of our favorite #BoPo accounts. Her Instagram page is filled with humor and photos of her adapting celebrity fashion looks for the plus-sized woman. Another reason to love her? She’s the founder of Mega Babe Beauty, a line of products that is “the answer to B.O., boob sweat, and thigh chafe”. The ‘Thigh Rescue’ balm coats your skin, allowing it to glide smoothly, thigh by thigh.
Jockey ‘Women’s Underwear Skimmies Wicking Slipshort’
We can personally vouch for this pair of anti-chafe shorts. They’re lightweight and come in a variety of colors to match your skin tone. The cotton gusset will keep your thighs from chafing, while the design of the shorts means that you won’t have any issues moving around comfortably in them.
Thigh Society ‘Ultra High-Rise Anti Chafing Slipshort’
Canadian brand Thigh Society’s shorts have been making headlines the world over. They prevent chafing and wick away sweat without the uncomfortable pressure of shapewear. The brand’s mission statement says it all: “Body acceptance can be a struggle, but putting on your underwear shouldn’t be. At Thigh Society, we don’t think that preventing a common skin rash should come at the expense of comfort or confidence – that’s why we’re on a mission to eradicate chafing and the stigmas around it, while helping women love their thighs at any size.” Yes please.
Lush ‘Silky Underwear Dusting Powder’
Lush’s dusting powder smells of heavenly jasmine and vetiver can be used all over your body for a smooth finish. It absorbs moisture, making it ideal to use on the areas of your thighs that rub together, as well as anywhere else you might be experiencing a similar issue.
According to Dr. Lana Kashlan, “The first step is to keep the skin as dry as possible and to apply a barrier product to the skin surface to protect against rubbing.” Failing that, there are also products that you can use in order to treat the affected area once the damage is done. Bio-Oil, for instance, can be used to help repair and heal the damaged skin.
