Around the world, October is dedicated to raising awareness around breast cancer, one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in women. Communities come together to celebrate survivors, raise funds for research and treatment, encourage women to get regular tests, and empower them through education.

If you’re looking for ways to get involved, show support, or educate yourself, here are the events happening around Dubai through the months of October and November. Make sure to check back regularly as we’ll be updating this list weekly.

October 2: Breast Cancer Awareness Night at ON42

Jenny Waite, a Dubai-based breast cancer survivor who cycled 250km from Thailand to Cambodia, will share her experience and battle against the disease during this event, held at Media One Hotel. All proceeds from registration will go to Al Jalila Foundation’s Brest Friends initiative.

October 3: Optimizing Breast Health Naturally

Naturopathic doctor Faryal Luhar will host an extensive talk on preventing and treating breast cancer using a holistic approach. She aims to empower women by educating them and showing them how to take charge of their health.

October 5: IGNITE Pink Is Punk 2018

This is a great way to get your whole family involved in the cause. Currently in its seventh consecutive year, Pink Is Punk involves a three-kilometer fun run along with a swim event. It’s open to participants of all age groups, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go towards Brest Friends in association with Al Jalila Foundation.

October 8: IGNITE Pink Is Punk Yoga 2018

Be a part of an uplifting and soothing moonlight yoga session with Pink is Punk. Held outdoor by the sea, the session will incorporate a gentle Vinyasa Flow along with breathing and meditation techniques. The event is open to all levels, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go towards Brest Friends in association with Al Jalila Foundation.

October 18: SuperPINK - Fund Raiser Campaign

Valiant Clinic, in collaboration with Breast Friends, is hosting a breast cancer fundraiser at City Walk, Dubai. Activities will include arts and crafts, a wall of hope, survivor talks, information booths, and also an opportunity to speak with high-profile physicians and representatives from Valiant Clinic and Al Jalila Foundation.

October 27: XDubai Spartan Women’s Race

XDubai along with Spartan Arabia will host a women’s only race during the second annual Dubai Fitness Challenge. The event is open to women aged 15 and above. They also have a Spartan kids’ race, which is open to both boys and girls under the age of 14. Part of the proceeds from the event will be donated towards Al Jalila Foundation in association with Brest Friends. All spectators are welcome to support the Spartan racers.

All of October: Pink Caravan

Pink Caravan provides free mammograms all year round to women over the age of 40, with follow-up if necessary. Dr. Sawsan Al Mahdi, head of the medical and awareness committee at Pink Caravan says, “Breast cancer treatment has a high rate of success if disease is detected in its early stages.”

During the month of October, Pink Caravan will be popping up around the UAE, in places like Carrefour in Dubai and Masdar in Abu Dhabi.

November 2: Pink Ladies’ Games 2018

This all-female event will see participants compete through fun challenges and obstacles. Women can sign up in groups of three to five, and 20 percent of the money raised will go towards Pink Caravan’s charity initiatives.

November 7 and 8: Global Conference on Research & Innovation Breast Care

Happening at the Hyatt Regency Dubai Creek Heights, this is a great platform for anyone looking to learn more about breast health and the different forms of breast cancers. The conference will also include a talk on the various treatment options available and cover topics like risk factors and prevention, genetics as they pertain to breast cancer, cases in men, and more.
