If you are perpetually late to work, appointments, or even early-morning gym sessions with your trainer, don’t worry – we’ve got you covered. According to health science research, it takes only 21 days to form a new habit, which means that your new morning routine will become ingrained forever if you stick to Goodness’ guide for three weeks straight.

Let’s begin by listing the prime culprits that make it hard to get ready efficiently in the morning. Starting your day by looking at your smartphone can suck you into a routine that wastes a lot of time. Furthermore, poor sleep and diet habits can contribute to restless nights that translate to feeling groggy and sluggish in the mornings. Finally, lack of preparation means scrambling to put together an outfit and eat a proper breakfast when you’re pressed for time. Often, that leaves little room for the healthy habits that you’d like to employ, like meditation, exercise, or packing a healthy lunch for the day.

These quick, easy fixes will completely reorient your mornings and set you off on a happier, more energetic path. If you follow this guide, you’ll be able to get ready for work in less than 30 minutes each day, which means one amazing thing to look forward to: more sleep!

Cheat Codes

Cheat codes are all around you – you just need to know where to look. By cheat codes, we mean multi-tasking hair and beauty products as well as minor beauty routine adjustments that will make life so much easier.

  • Do not wash your hair in the morning. Instead, wash it the night before and braid it. This guarantees a beautiful, wavy texture in the morning and a fuss-free hair routine. You’ll also save at least 15 to 30 minutes of blow-drying and styling your hair.
  • Use only multi-tasking hair and beauty products like BB cream instead of moisturizer, SPF, and foundation combined. In the shower, we recommend using an intensely moisturizing body wash in order to skip the post-shower step of applying lotion all over.
  • If you’re really pressed for time and didn’t braid your hair the night before, a quick spritz of dry shampoo will refresh and revive your locks.
  • Skip a full face of makeup and opt instead for four simple products: brow gel, setting powder, mascara, and bright-red lipstick. A bright shade on the lips works wonders towards revitalizing a tired face and serving as a distraction from a simpler makeup routine.

Pre-Game

What has always been your frenzied morning routine should now become your leisurely pre-bedtime routine. This means spending around 30 minutes to an hour preparing for the next morning, with key tasks being: getting a healthy breakfast ready, packing a nutritious lunch, and laying out various outfits for the next day (workout gear and workwear, specifically).

  • Not only can you make a simple, healthy breakfast by tossing together a few ingredients and refrigerating them overnight, but you can also make them portable so you can run out the door with breakfast in hand. Savoir Flair favorites include chia seed pudding and overnight oatmeal, both of which can be prepared in hundreds of different ways to match your preferences. Our favorite recipes right now are ‘Sticky Bun Chia Seed Pudding’ and ‘Peanut Butter Overnight Oats’. To save even more time in the morning, eat breakfast at your work desk while answering e-mails.
  • This next step is simple, but one we often forget. Most modern coffee machines are equipped with timers, so set your coffee to a timer in order to wake up to fresh, fragrant brews every day. This cuts down on coffee preparation time and guarantees that you’ll be enjoying caffeine first thing in the morning.
  • Prepare a healthy lunch the night before by making a delicious salad in a jar. These self-contained salads only need to be mixed with salad dressing and some protein in order to become a satisfying midday meal. This handy guide will show you how to layer the ingredients to maximum effect.
  • Prepare your workout and workwear ensembles (including shoes and accessories for both) the night before. Pack your workout outfit in a gym bag along with a water bottle, headphones, and other gym essentials. Hang your workwear outfit in the bathroom so that any wrinkles will be eliminated by your steamy morning shower. Tip: Check the weather the night before in order to ensure you’re preparing looks that are ready to handle rain, heat, etc.

Easy Exit

You did it! You got up on time, took a quick shower, got dressed, and maybe even had time for a quick meditation session or some yoga moves. Congratulations! The hard part is over. Now all you have to do is get out the door. But wait, where is everything? In order to ensure you don’t forget your breakfast, lunch, gym gear, work papers, and other important items, follow these guidelines:

  • Place your keys in the refrigerator along with your pre-made breakfast and lunch. This will guarantee that you won’t leave the house without your meals.
  • Stash your gym bag, work bag, and handbag in front of your front door. By that, we mean literally in front of it, so that you’d have to trip over the bags in order to exit. This is only practical if you’re first out the door. Otherwise, set them as close to the front door as possible.
  • Have a back-up plan ready. You never know what the day or evening might bring, so store a pair of sneakers, a stylish pair of heels, a glamorous statement necklace, and a bright lip shade in your work bag, all of which will make for a quick change, if necessary.
